Yashin Trophy goes to PSG’s Donnarumma

Gianluigi Donnarumma has been named the best goalkeeper of 2021.

Paris Saint-Germain’s

Italian goalkeeper

Gianluigi Donnarumma

has won the Yashin Trophy for goalkeepers, which goes to the best performing goalkeeper of the season, and the 22-year-old goalkeeper, who was named the best goalkeeper of the Summer’s European Championship, helping

Roberto Mancini’s

team win the competition, has won this title, despite his struggles for playing time with the Parisians.

The 22-year-old had such an important role in Italy’s title-winning squad in Euro 2020 that he was named the best player of the competition, but he hasn’t been able to keep showing those impressive performances since his move to Paris Saint-Germain from Milan as he has been the Parisians’ second option sitting behind

Keylor Navas

in the pecking order.

There has been only one goalkeeper to win the title before him, which was Liverpool’s

Alisson Becker

, who won it in 2019 as the ceremony was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, and in this year’s ceremony, the Italy international has defeated big opponents like

Edouard Mendy

who has been an important player in Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea that won the Champions League last year and has helped them stand in the first place in the domestic competition so far conceding only five goals.
