Atletico Madrid suffer double injury blow after Cadiz win

Jose Gimenez and Thomas Lemar were both forced off with injuries during the 4-1 win.

Atletico Madrid defeated Cadiz with a 4-1 result on Sunday.

Thomas Lemar

scored the opener for the Rojiblancos in the 56th minute. However, he limped off the pitch minutes later as Diego Simeone decided to replace him with Angel Correa.

Lemar was not the only injury scare for Atletico. Defender

Jose Gimenez

was also subbed off with an injury in the first half. The Uruguayan was sidelined with an abductor issue in October, but the problem did not seem to be a relapse of the past injury.

In a post-match interview, Simeone was asked about the two injuries.

"He was a bit stuffy and we decided that he would come off,"

he said about Gimenez.

Speaking about Lemar, he said:

“I don’t know what he had, it might have been a hit.”

Atletico moved up to second place in La Liga. The Rojiblancos will face

Mallorca

in their next league game on Saturday before returning to the Champions League for a crucial battle against Porto.
