Shevchenko to return to Serie A with Genoa

The former Milan striker is set to sign a two-year deal with the Serie A side.

Having collected nine points from their first 12 league matches,

Genoa

are in the race to survive relegation. The club’s new owners have decided to appoint a Serie A legend as their new head coach.

According to

La Gazzetta dello Sport

, Andriy Shevchenko will travel to Italy next week to sign a two-year deal with Genoa.

Miami-based firm 777 Partners will complete Genoa’s takeover on November 15, starting their project to improve the Liguria side under the Ukrainian manager.

In August, Shevchenko parted ways with the Ukraine national team after five years. The Ballon d’Or winner will reportedly join his new team ahead of their upcoming Serie A battle against Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

The former striker played under Mourinho for one season at Chelsea before returning to his childhood club Dynamo Kyiv in 2009.
