Giroud and Calabria in action against Spezia - Pioli

The Milan manager said that Olivier Giroud and Davide Calabria will feature in the battle against Spezia, but Alessandro Florenzi is out of action due to an injury.

Olivier Giroud

did not play for

Milan

in their last two matches, but he is available for the clash against

Spezia

tomorrow.

Alessandro Florenzi

is out of action as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Simon Kjaer, Rade Krunic and Junior Mesias.

“He will be called up and he will play, but we need to decide whether he will start or come on as a substitute,”

Stefano Pioli

said at a press conference.

“Calabria will be available tomorrow. Since the beginning of the season, we’ve only had two muscular injuries, Kessié and Krunic. All the others suffered muscle fatigue.

“Florenzi will not be available because of a knock to his knee,”

Pioli explained.

He could not train this morning, so I hope he can be ready on Tuesday. He is not yet 100 per cent, but he is a smart player, I count on him a lot. I hope he will soon reach his peak,”

the coach continued.

“Messias arrived with a few problems and he is overcoming them. It’s a pity that not all the players are available, but I have a strong team.”

Milan have gained 13 points during their first five games of the Serie A season and are sitting two points adrift of Napoli who sit top.

I expected this Napoli, they haven’t changed much and they added Anguissa who is strong and I’ve known for a long time. They have depth and are among the candidates for the title,”

Pioli ensured.

“There will be a lot of competition for the top four. I’m happy with my team, I have quality and many options.

“Together with the fans, we have more energy and enthusiasm. We started well at home, but we are only at the beginning. Tomorrow we play away against a team to be respected.

“It’s an important game, the starters will play a key role, but the same goes for those who come on from the bench.

“All those who played on Wednesday are promoted. When everyone’s fit, my choices are just technical. Tomorrow I will pick the best line-up depending on what I see during today’s training,”

the coach continued.

Milan were defeated 3-0 during the same fixture in the 2020-21 season, and Pioli wants something different for tomorrow’s clash.

“We lacked everything against Spezia last season. This time, we must not concede as much and be more dangerous. We need clear ideas. We need to use different solutions and press high up the pitch, then we’ll see what game they will play.”

Milan will face

Atletico Madrid

at San Siro for the Champions League battle on September 28.
