Gullit: De Ligt will grow with Chiellini and Bonucci

The ex-Milan and Sampdoria forward believes Matthijs de Ligt ‘is growing very well’ as he has Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci to look up to at the Bianconeri. ‘He still has a lot to learn from them’.

Matthijs de Ligt

made a move to

Juventus

on a deal worth €85.5m in July 2019 after helping

Ajax

make their way to the Champions League semi-finals.

The 22-year-old had a hard time convincing at the Bianconeri during the beginning months, but he managed to establish himself at Juventus.

Ruud Gullit

, who played for Milan and Sampdoria in Serie A for seven years, thinks that the Holland international can learn a lot from

Chiellini

and

Bonucci

.

The former Ajax defender has contributed to one Scudetto win and one Coppa Italia with Juventus and made 77 appearances since his move from Eredivisie.

He’s at the best school for defenders, because Bonucci and Chiellini are currently the best around,”

Gullit told Sky Sports.

“He’s growing very well with them.

“De Ligt is young and group up with another concept of defence, following the idea that the set-up was most important.

“He’s doing well, but at times he’s a bit instinctive. He has to stay calm and anticipate, just like Bonucci and Chiellini do. He still has a lot to learn from them.”

The star has been in the starting XI of both Serie A games of this season, but the Bianconeri are sitting 12th on the table, having gained only one point from two matches.
