, Lazio had entered the competition with Inter and Roma for Kostic’s signature and his price tag was €25m.

Lazio continued their pursuit of the Serbia international until the transfer window ended but they reported that their last offer was not received by Eintracht.

Speculations suggest that Lazio have been given a false email address by the Bundesliga side for the deal not to go ahead, but Goal confirms that an error occurred that resulted in the transfer bid getting collapsed.

Eintracht denied the reports and claimed that the Serie A side did not include the letter ‘K’ in their proposal, which couldn’t be accepted officially.

When the email of Lazio’s proposal was sent last week, the address was eintrachtfranfurt.de instead of eintrachtfrankfurt.de.

The problem was that the letter ‘K’ in question is not part of the Italian alphabet and by the time Lazio sent another email, the transfer window was closed.

Igli Tare, Lazio sporting director, revealed that the club was keen on acquiring Kostic’s services, but the whole saga needs to be forgotten now.

When quizzed how he responded to the situation, he told Goal

: "I don't want to say anything about that. There is no point in talking about it anymore. We would have liked to sign Filip Kostic."

Asked whether Lazio will target him again in January, Tare added:

“I don’t think so.”

The 28-year-old’s contract is due to expire in two years and he met the back of the net 26 times, contributing 48 assists in 129 matches for his side.
