Atletico Madrid signed Rodrigo de Paul on €35m deal

Atletico Madrid needed to sign Rodrigo de Paul on a €35 million deal to strengthen their midfield as Diego Simeone is putting together a successful title defense after last season’s La Liga success.

Atletico Madrid

just spent €35 million to strengthen their midfield this summer by signing

Rodrigo de Paul

from Udinese.

De Paul left

La Liga

and Valencia in 2016 and now after five years, he has returned to the league.

After last season’s impressive La Liga success for Los Rojiblancos, they needed to put together a successful title defense and because of that, signing the Argentine was a vital piece for Diego Simeone’s plan.

At first, it seemed impossible for Atletico Madrid to sign de Paul as they are currently facing financial issues, which see them in more than €1 billion in debt and dangerously close to their La Liga salary cap.

But according to

Marca

, they were able to pull it off as the report confirmed that de Paul, who won Copa América this summer, has already been registered with La Liga.

It confirmed that de Paul has been registered since August 2 and therefore he could be available for their league opener against Celta Vigo at Balaídos on Sunday.
