MK Dons confirm Swansea approach for Russell Martin
The Swans are without a coach since the departure of Steve Cooper in July.
Having spent the last month without a coach,
Swanseaare interested in appointing
Russell Martin
as their new manager. Martin is currently in charge of
MK Dons, who are set to face Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on Saturday.
The League One club confirmed Swansea’s approach to sign Martin.
"To our extreme disappointment, this was received less than 24 hours prior to our first competitive fixture of the season."
said the club in an official
statement.
"To minimise disruption to our players and our match preparation, it was decided that this would be discussed after today's game,
"It was not our attention to release a statement until after discussions had taken place but given the intense media speculation, we felt it necessary to confirm the situation to both our players this morning and to our supporters before the game.
"The club will make no further comment at this time while we focus on this afternoon's fixture."
Martin took charge at Stadium MK in November 2019. The English coach, whose side finished 13th in League One last season, is contracted until next summer at MK Dons. QPR assistant coach
John Eustace
was considered to be appointed as Swansea’s next manager. However, the Welsh coach ruled himself out due to personal reasons.
The Dons will start their new League One campaign with a match against
Boltonon August 7. Swansea will face
Blackburnin their Championship opener on the same day.
