Arjen Robben announces his retirement at the age of 37

Ex- Bayern star has decided to retire from football due to consecutive injuries.

hung up his boots in 2019 in his last season at Bayern, however, he decided to return to world football one year later after signing a contract with the club he started his career in,

However, Robben suffered consecutive injuries in his Groningen campaign and only played two games for the Dutch club.

The talented winger has now decided to hang up his boots at the age of 37 and announced his retirement in his social media account a few minutes ago.

He wrote on Twitter:

"Dear football friends, I have decided to stop my active football career.

"A very difficult choice. I want to thank everyone for all the heartwarming support!

"Regards, Arjen."

Robben started his football career in 2000 at Groningen and was named the club's player of the year in his first year on the team.

He then moved to PSV Eindhoven in 2002 and won the Eredivisie title with the club.

For his next journey, Robben left PSV for Chelsea in 2004, where he won two Premier League titles and the FA Cup in his three-year stint at Stamford Bridge.

He was then snapped by Spanish giants, Real Madrid, where he won the La Liga title in his first year with Los Blancos. The prolific winger was transferred to Bayern Munich in 2009, after experiencing a disappointing second season at Santiago Bernabeu.

Robben peaked his form in his 10 years at Bayern, scoring 144 goals in his 309 appearances for the club.

The Dutchman achieved Eight Bundesliga titles, five DFB-Pokals and a Champions League title in a decade he played for the Bavarians.

He also scored 37 goals in his 96 appearances for the Netherlands and announced his retirement from international duty in 2017.
