Liam Millar Won’t Be Sold, Will Go On Loan Spell Instead

Liam Millar will not be transferred out of Liverpool in the coming season. Instead, after finishing his loan spell with League One side Charlton Athletic, he will continue to play with a Championship club next.

The 21-year-old Canadian left winger received an impressive number of enquiries from sides in the second tier after catching many eyes during his time with Charlton. It’s as safe as anyone’s bets at

that Liverpool also sees potential in him, willing to hold on to the player and allow him to improve.

There is no word on which team will be the lucky one to have him for at least a few months in the coming season.

From Canada to Liverpool

A Canadian professional football player is a pretty rare sight in the Premier League. Millar was born in Toronto, Canada, and played football at a semi-professional level locally until moving to England to continue training in the most beautiful sport in the world right in its birthplace. Initially, he joined Fulham’s youth academy - he was 13 at the time - but moved on to Liverpool three years later.

He joined the Reds’ senior team in 2019 but he is yet to appear in their jersey - he spent his time with the club on loan at Scottish team Kilmarnock and later at Charlton Athletic. During his tenure with the Red Robins, he played in 27 league games, scored two goals, and contributed six assists.

Millar was capped 10 times for Canada’s national team, and while he didn’t score any goals in international competitions, he did impress through his flexibility, pace, and ball control.

Not cashing in

Liverpool will not be cashing in on the 21-year-old Canadian player just yet - instead, they’ll allow him to improve in another loan spell. This in spite of several second-tier sides expressing interest in the youngster. Apparently, LFC feels that there is a ton of untapped potential still to be revealed in his case, and is willing to wait for him to improve. Perhaps even to break into the first team at Liverpool.

At this point, Millar is competing not only with the players already having a spot at Anfield but with other emerging talents on loan at other teams, including 18-year-old winger Harvey Elliott currently on loan at Blackburn Rovers, the youngest player ever in the Premier League, who was nominated for the EFL Young Player of the Season award. At the same time, the fact that Liverpool is willing to wait for him and keep him in the cards is encouraging for the emerging Canadian player.
