Robert Lewandowski ‘proud’ to reach Gerd Muller’s record
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski has equaled Gerd Muller’s 49-year-old Bundesliga record for the most goals in a single season after he scored his 40th goal of the season against Freiburg on Saturday.

's goal came from the spot in the 26th minute to put champions Bayern ahead before

equalized three minutes later.
Lewandowski celebrated the goal by lifting up his playing top to show a T-shirt underneath with Muller's face on and the words "4ever Gerd".
"I achieved a goal that once seemed impossible to imagine,"
Lewandowski wrote on Twitter with the hashtags "#Lewy40" and "#4EverGerd
".
"I'm so unbelievably proud to make history for FC Bayern, and to play a part in creating the stories that fans will tell their children - following in the footsteps of legends like Gerd Muller."
Lewandowski still has the chance to break the record in the final league game of the season at home to
FC Augsburgnext Saturday.
