Liverpool taking the first steps towards signing Rodrigo De Paul

Liverpool are planning a summer transfer for Udinese midfielder Rodrigo De Paul, according to reports.

The Reds are expected to look for a substitute for

Georginio Wijnaldum

, whose contract expires next month, and there seems to be little movement on a new offer.

Liverpool have been in contact with De Paul's partner,

Mino Raiola

, over a transfer, according to FC Inter News

(via the Express)

. The 26-year-old is said to be worth £35 million to Udinese.

De Paul has been with the

Serie A

side since joining from Valencia in 2016. He has appeared in 178 games for the Old Lady, scoring 32 times.

The Argentine, who represented his country's shirt 21 times, was heavily linked with a move to Leeds last summer and is said to be drawing interest from a number of Europe's top clubs.

Jurgen Klopp

recently dismissed rumors of a massive overhaul of the squad this summer, claiming that business will still be complicated due to the pandemic's consequences, but Liverpool is said to have talked with Raiola about De Paul on several occasions.

The Reds are still in with a chance of qualifying for next season's

Champions League

, but they are eight points behind fourth-placed Chelsea with just five games remaining.
