Police make one arrest following the Old-Trafford demonstrations

The Premier League and the FA have launched independent investigations over Sunday’s protest.

Demonstration against the Glazers outside the Old-Trafford broke into chaos as a number of fans forced their way into the stadium on Sunday.

, which was scheduled to be started at 4.30 pm, was postponed an hour later. Greater Manchester Police confirms that six police officers were injured during the protest and one person has been arrested following the events.

"Six police officer injuries have been reported so far with one officer receiving a fractured eye socket, requiring medical treatment, and another sustained a wound to his face, following bottles and cans being thrown from the crowd,"

a statement from Greater Manchester Police read.

"A third officer was dragged and kicked. The officer who attended hospital has since been discharged.

"A 28-year old man has been arrested as a consequence of this investigation and all available evidence is being urgently reviewed to identify both the organisers of this protest and those responsible for the officer assaults."

According to Greater Manchester Police Federation, an officer who sustained an eye injury was "lucky not to lose his sight".

Stu Berry

, chairman of the federation, said:

"Our brave colleague went to work yesterday to keep the people of Greater Manchester safe - and he ended up coming under attack. He is incredibly lucky not to have lost the sight in an eye."

Manchester United fans are protesting against the Glazer family, who are the current owners of the club. The demonstrations were started after the club announced its membership in the European Super League. The club withdrew from the breakaway league two days later, but the fans have continued protests against the ownership of the club.
