Jack ruled out for the clash against Slavia Prague, Gerrard reveals

The Rangers manager revealed that the Scotland international is not going to feature in their second leg clash against Slavia Prague in the Europa League Round of 16, notwithstanding being called up by Scotland for the World Cup qualifier’s quad on Thursday.

Scotland manager

Steve Clarke

has named the squad for a busy schedule which starts with a Group F clash against Austria later this month before moving on Israel.

They will then finish their March games taking on the Faroe Islands at the end of the month.

Ryan Jack

, however, hasn’t featured for

Rangers

since sustaining a calf injury in the battle against

Dundee United

last month with

Steven Gerrard

revealing that he will miss the game against the Czech side.

"

I had a chat with Steve Clarke and obviously that will remain private,"

Steven Gerrard said.

"

We've been in touch over Ryan (Jack) and a few other players for some time now but I'm not going to divulge what gets said in the conversation. I don't think that's fair or respectful.

"Ryan won't be involved tomorrow night. We will make a decision on the weekend when we need to but he is ruled out for tomorrow's game."

The 40-year-old boss has also wished well for the club’s former manager Walter Smith who has been struggling with an illness.

Gerrard said:

"I've already sent my best wishes to Walter's family. Everyone at the club wishes Walter well. He still plays a massive part at this club, he's an iconic figure.

"He's someone I've got a close relationship with. I was only on a zoom call with him days before he went into the hospital.

"So everyone is right behind Walter, wishing him well and hopefully he will be out of hospital before too long."

Rangers will welcome

Slavia Prague

on Thursday aiming to make their way through the quarter-finals of the

Europa League

, with their first-leg clash coming down to a 1-1 draw.
