Torres temporarily steps away from Atletico Madrid B coaching position

The former Spain international has temporarily left his coaching role at Atletico Madrid’s B team.

Fernando Torres

was appointed to the coaching position at Los Rojiblancos’ youth team in January, as he was aiming for his qualifications in the UEFA.

However, according to the reports, the former

Atletico Madrid

striker has asked to step away from his role temporarily due to personal matters.

The 36-year-old coach will come back in March, as he is on a short term leave of absence. Torres may get the chance to be involved with the first team before the season ends.

Atletico Madrid B

team have not got off to a right start in the 2020/21 season, with only two victories in 13 outings in Segunda B Division. Their campaign, however, might get canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Torres has spent his heyday with Atletico, meeting the target 82 times in La Liga across five seasons before going to Liverpool in 2007. He rejoined

Diego Simeone

’s squad in 2014 on a loan contract from Chelsea and found the net 27 times. He called it quits in 2019 when he last played for Sagan Tosu, a Japanese club.
