Bosz has full support of Völler and Rolfes
Despite Leverkusen’s unexpected exit in DFB Pokal and a couple of poor results that cost them slipping from second to fifth in the Bundesliga table, club bosses made clear that they support their current trainer.
Among
Bosz’s
questionable decisions in their loss to the fourth-tier club,
Rot-Weiß-Essen.
was placing both
Patrik Schick
and
Lucas Alario
atop an unfamiliar 3-1-4-2 system. He also used
Exequiel Palacios
to pull the strings in midfield and kept injury returned
Charles Aranguiz
on the pitch for the full 120 minutes. However, the club’s sporting director,
Simon Roles
, and sporting CEO,
Rudi Völler
, defended the manager’s decisions.
"We created a lot of chances and should have led by halftime,"
Völler
noted, "The formation was good. We had to take our chances."
"When you score the first goal, you have to bring the game home with confident, well-organized, and structured possession,"
Rolfes
complained.
"We'll have to put ourselves [in Bosz's] shoes,"
Völler
added, "We let the opponent gain confidence, but I'll stick to my guns. We need to score more goals."
Despite the club’s bosses' supports, if
Bayer
cannot find their way back to form befitting of their overall talent level,
Bosz
can expect a harsher response.
