Mascarell: I wish to fight on to see this situation out

Schalke captain has expressed his desire to stay at the club and remain loyal to his ‘responsibility as captain’.

Omar Mascarell

has been linked with a move to Spanish side

Valencia

in the recent weeks but the player has stated in a new interview with

Marca

that he wishes to stay at

Schalke

.

"If the club shows me the door, I will have to leave,"

Mascarell told

Marca

.

"any interest [from another club] can be considered a compliment. Having made these statements, he emphasized that a move wasn't on his mind.

"My wish is to remain here and help out Schalke,

"I consider it my responsibility, especially as captain. I'm not one of those to abandon ship when things get rough. I wish to fight on to see this situation out."

Mascarell inherited the team’s captain armband from

Alexander Nubel

who left the club with a free transfer to Bayern Munchen in the summer. Sead Kolasinac has recently returned to Schalke and served as the team’s captain in their Saturday match against

Hoffenheim

in Mascarell’s absence. Schalke are currently in danger of being relegated but Mascarell says he wishes to stay and help his team through hard times.

"The club knows that I want to stay and make my contribution,"

The 27-year-old told the Spanish newspaper.
