Rafael da Silva renews his contract at Wuhan Zall

Brazilian forward has been a key player for Wuhan in recent seasons.

Having left

Urawa Red Diamonds

as the J-League champions,

Rafael da Silva

joined

Wuhan Zall

in 2018. The Brazilian forward has appeared in 38 Chinese Super League matches and has managed to score 31 goals. From a city that was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, Wuhan Zall avoided relegation last season and managed to stay at the super league by winning the play-offs.

The previous season was a huge challenge for the club and its fans as the squad was stranded in Spain for their pre-season preparation during the strict lockdown in late January. They were able to get back to China after 104 days as they were banned to travel by the travel restrictions in Europe. In September, about 300 supporters traveled 750 kilometers to attend Wuhan’s first match in 280 days which took place in Suzhou. Rafael’s contract renewal has been a Christmas gift for the fans as they wish to have a better footballing year in 2021.
