Barcelona announce Coutinho surgery date in reports of lengthy absence

Philippe Coutinho will experience knee surgery on Saturday, Barcelona have announced, and could be without Coutinho for several months.

The Brazil international was substituted in the 66th minute during Tuesday's frustrating 1-1 draw with Eibar at Camp Nou, but couldn't see the game.

On Friday,

Barca

confirmed he will have surgery on the external meniscus of his left knee.

A club statement read:

"Philippe Coutinho will be operated on this Saturday for the injury to the external meniscus of the left knee by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau and under the supervision of the club's medical services.

"Once the surgery has been completed, further information will be provided to detail the approximate expected recovery time."

Such time out would be another blow for

Barca

boss, Ronald Koeman, who is already without Ansu Fati, Sergi Roberto, and Gerard Pique due to injury.

Coutinho

has played 14 times for Barcelona this season in all competitions, netting three goals and providing two assists. He was at Bayern Munich on loan last season, guiding the German club to secure a treble that included winning the Champions League.

Rumors around are about him leaving the club in the January transfer window, but this latest setback guaranteed he will see out the 2020-21 campaign in Spain.
