Tare: ‘Caicedo will stay with Lazio’

Lazio sports director Igli Tare has confirmed that Felipe Caicedo won’t leave the club in the January transfer window amid Fiorentina rumors.

The 32-year-old striker is said to be heavily linked with a move to Fiorentina but Tare said he will stay with the club.

“The player had an agreement with me and the president last summer. He was supposed to move to Qatar, that’s why we signed [Vedat] Muriqi who was supposed to replace him.

“For some reason, the deal was not finalized and Caicedo stayed. We are very happy about it and I can confirm he hasn’t spoken with me about a possible move to Fiorentina, he is going to stay here.”

Lazio will take on Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico this evening.

“It’s a big opportunity that can boost our team-spirit. We’ve been speaking a lot this week, with the coach and the staff, analyzing all the mistakes we've done so far. Right now, the team want to be the same one we witnessed last season and during the current Champions League campaign.”

Lazio have had a poor start so far this season under Simone Inzaghi with only 18 points in 12 matches but they qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
