Liverpool are still interested in Nuno Mendes
The left-back is considered a top prospect in Portugal and has featured regularly for the capital club this season, bagging one goal and one assist in his 13 games this season.
According to Portuguese newspapers Record and O Jogo,
Liverpool
are heavily interested in
Sporting’s
18-year-old full-back,
Nuno Mendes
, and their €22m bid for the left-back was turned down as Sporting was eying a €45m fee.
Mendes
is close to signing a long-term contract with the Portuguese club that will include a €70m release clause, this means
Sporting
will take the higher ground in the further negotiations as
Liverpool’s
interest is said to be serious.
The Reds have to compete with
Manchester United

to sign the youngster.
