Western United announces signing of Barcelona’s former midfielder
Spanish midfielder, Víctor Sánchez, signs a two-year deal with the A-League side, Western United.
The 33 years old midfielder has experienced 300 La Liga matches, with some of them coming from his spell at
Barcelona
from 2008 to 2011.
Sánchez
is excited to begin a new chapter in Victoria’s west followed by a fashioned career in Europe.
“I am very happy to be joining an ambitious club like Western United and I want the fans to know I am committed and enthusiastic about the challenge ahead,”
Sanchez said.
“I want to say thank you to those who have made this move come true. I am extremely grateful for the trust they have shown in me.
“I am looking forward to joining the team as soon as possible. We hope to have a great season.”
The La Masia graduate signed for
RCD Espanyol
in 2011, where he appeared in 270 matches across all competitions, mainly as a defensive midfielder, as well as a defender.
United’s GM Football, Ante Kovacevic, is excited about their new signing:

“The defensive midfield role is key to a team’s defensive and offensive play and adding a La Liga calibre player to our team is a massive coup.

Sánchez will join his new side’s trainings in early December, as the 2020/21 A-League season is set to begin on 27 December.
