Jota had been signing of the season - Owen

Ex Reds striker believes Jota performed electric so far.

Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen believes Diogo Jota has been the best signing of the season.

Jota joined Liverpool on a £41 million transfer from Wolverhampton Wanderers and has performed well for the club during that time. The 23-year-old Portuguese striker has scored nine goals in 15 games for his team and had brilliant performances alongside Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane. His last goal was in Liverpool's previous Premier League match against Brighton, and he was in the starting line-up for the Champions League match against Ajax.

Owen has been impressed by the Portuguese star's performance and now considers him the season's best transfer.

Ex England striker told BT Sport:

"No one could’ve predicted that he would hit the ground running like he has. You’d have to say he’s the best signing of the season so far in the Premier League.

"He’s surprised me with his pace, I must admit. I think he’s far quicker than I gave him credit for. Against Atalanta he was electric.

"He just shows composure, a lot of people panic, they just get a shot off as soon as they get any form of space.

"I just think he’s scored headers, right foot, left foot, he’s scored everything so far and he’s looked the real deal in terms of linking play.

"Nobody could have envisaged the quality that he’s shown so far."
