Barca’s Legal team to overturn Messi’s booking after his tribute

Barcelona will use the Precedent of Sergio Ramos to appeal the booking over Messi’s touching shirt tribute to Diego Maradona.

Lionel Messi

unveiled a Newell’s Old Boy kit, which was worn by

Maradona

during his spell with the club, and paid a touching tribute to Diego Maradona after he scored with similarities to a goal scored by the late football legend 27 years ago.

The celebration forced referee Mateu Lahoz to show Messi a yellow card for taking off his side’s shirt. In addition to the booking, the club will have to pay €3000 to the Spanish FA for the tribute.

According to

article 91

of the

FA’s Disciplinary Code

: “

The footballer who, on the occasion of having scored a goal or for any cause derived from the vicissitudes of the game, raises his shirt and displays any kind of advertising, slogan, legend, acronyms, anagrams or drawings, whatever their content or the purpose of the action, will be punished, as the author of a serious offence, with a fine of up to €3,000 and a warning

.”

Barca’s legal team is confident that Messi’s yellow card will be forgiven.
