Lewandowski, Messi and Ronaldo nominated at The Best FIFA Awards

Competition for the Best FIFA men’s player award heating up as FIFA announces nominations.

Messi, Ronaldo, and Lewandowski showing up on the list, while Premier League champions Liverpool has the most nominees in the shortlist with Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and their summer signing Thiago Alcantara.

Paris Saint-Germain forwards Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, with Manchester City playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and Real Madrid Captain are the other nominees that made it into the Best FIFA men’s player 11 players shortlist.

FIFA confirmed that there will be a virtual event on December 17 for The Best awards, despite France Football’s Ballon d’Or being canceled in 2020. France football announced this decision in July as the coronavirus pandemic impacted global football, leading to the shortening of France’s Ligue 1 2019-20 season.

Lewandowski for sure was frustrated by France Football’s decision, as he was the favorite to succeed six-time winner Lionel Messi. But yet he can be honored by FIFA for his outstanding season with Bayern Munich, leading them to win a treble in the 2019-20 season.

Voting will take place from November 25 to December 9, eight days before the awards ceremony.

Six goalkeepers are running for The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award, Bayern’s Manuel Nuer will be the favorite amid competition to Alisson, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Jan Oblak, Keylor Navas, and Thibaut Courtois.
