Ukraine Top Scorers of All Time

Ukraine is not a big name in the world football, however, that doesn’t mean the nation has never produced a top footballer. In this post, we are to see who Ukraine top scorers of all time are with some of whom being among top Ukrainian footballers or even Ukraine football player legends.

Based on Ukraine scoring stats, there are ten

Ukraine top scorers

with more than 8 goals scored during their international careers. As we mentioned above, Ukraine is not a big name in the world football, and maybe that’s why the nation’s top scorer of all time, Andriy Shevchenko, could not manage to score more than 50 international goals, however, if you ask football fans, who is Ukraine best footballer of all time, most of them answer Andriy Shevchenko.

Shevchenko is actually so big they even call him one of Ukraine football player legends, but of course, there are also other Ukrainian football legends like Oleg Blokhin who are not among Ukraine top scorers. Anyway, in this post, as we mentioned above, we are to Ukraine national football team top scorers ever, of course based on Ukraine scoring stats, and not Ukraine best footballers, though some of the nation’s best footballers are also among its top scorers, too.

A List of Ukraine Top Scorers of All Time

Here comes a list of Ukraine top scorers of all time with Andriy Shevchenko topping the list, but let’s see which other footballers are on the list.

Andriy Shevchenko (48 Goals)

Number one on the list of Ukraine top scorers of all time, Andriy Shevchenko is a 45-year-old retired footballer who is not only Ukraine top scorer of all time, indeed to this date, but also the second most capped Ukrainian footballer ever with 111 caps. So, he scored 48 goals in 111 international appearances which also gets him the highest goal-to-appearance ratio, too: 0.43 which means he scored 2.15 goals in every 5 of his international appearances. Shevchenko is also the most decorated footballer on the list with a host of individual awards and trophies to his name including five Ukrainian Footballer of the Year awards with three of them being consecutive; actually the ones between 1999 and 2001.

Shevchenko is the only winner of the top football prize, Ballon d’Or - actually in 2004, the only winner of the Golden Foot award - actually in 2011, and the only footballer on the list to have been named on FIFA 100 list by the Brazilian legend, Pele - that’s the list of the greatest living footballers in 21st century. He’s also the only one on the list to have served the top European clubs, Chelsea and AC Milan, for quite a time during his career. With all these achievements, Shevchenko should be called one of the best footballers Ukraine has ever produced if not actually Ukraine best footballer of all time or even one of

Ukraine football player legends

as some believe.

Ok, let’s see in which competitions Shevchenko scored his international goals and how many in each of them. The retired Ukrainian footballer scored most of his international goals in 2006 World Cup qualification round: 26 goals in 40 appearances. The rest of his goals were scored in friendlies (8), Euro 2012 qualification round (10), World Cup finals (2), and Euro finals (2). He actually captained the

Ukrainian national team

in both 2006 World Cup and Euro 2012 where in the former he helped them to advance to quarter-finals just to lose 3-0 to Italy there and in the latter was actually eliminated with his country’s national team in the group stage after two losses to England and France. Other than serving the Ukrainian national team for 17 years between 1995 and 2012, Shevchenko also served U19 and U21 teams sometime between 1994 and 1995 making 15 appearances and scoring 11 goals for them in the process.

Andriy Yarmolenko (46 Goals)

A former player of Borussia Dortmund and the current player of West Ham United, Andriy Yarmolenko is a 32-year-old Ukrainian forward and actually the first active player on the list of

Ukraine top scorers of all time

. He’s only 2 goals and 5 caps behind Andriy Shevchenko and considering that he will probably be in the business for another five years, there is a high probability that he overtakes Shevchenko on the list which we will surely update you with. Concerning his international goal-to-appearance ratio (0.42), Yarmolenko is also very near to Shevchenko meaning that he has also scored around two goals in every five international appearances of his.

Yarmolenko

has been serving the Ukrainian national team since 2009 and during this time has scored 46 goals in his 106 appearances for them. Of course, some sources say it’s 44 which if we take as true, then Yarmolenko’s international stats concerning the goals he has scored, appearances he has made, assists he has provided, and yellow or red cards he has received is as follows: Friendlies, 39 appearances, 18 goals, 9 assists, and one yellow card, World Cup qualification rounds, 33 appearances, 15 goals, 8 assists, and 2 yellow cards, Euro qualifying rounds, 16 appearances, 7 goals, 3 assists, and one yellow card, Euro finals, 11 appearances, 2 goals, 3 assists, and one yellow card, and finally UEFA Nations League, 7 appearances, 2 goals, and one assist. That’s actually 106 appearances, 44 goals, 24 assists, and 5 yellow cards in total. The most number of goals Yarmolenko has scored in a single international match was actually in a Euro 2016 qualification match against Luxembourg where the 32-year-old Ukrainian forward scored all the three goals of his team leading them to a 3-0 win.

Yevhen Konoplyanka (21 Goals)

Another active footballer on the list of Ukraine top scorers of all time, Yevhen Konoplyanka is a 32-year-old Ukrainian footballer just like Andriy Yarmolenko who’s been serving the Ukrainian national team since 2010. The major difference Konoplyanka has with Yarmolenko is in the number of international goals he has scored. Although both forwards are the same age and have been serving the Ukrainian national team for almost the same period of time, Konoplyanka is behind Yarmolenko by 23 international goals which is a figure one cannot deny, and considering that both footballers are the same age and have around 5 years before the end of their careers, the possibility that Konoplyanka overtakes Yarmolenko on the list of Ukraine top scorers is very small we can almost call it non-existent.

And considering the number of international appearances, Konoplyanka is behind Yarmolenko by 20 appearances. In general, Konoplyanka has scored his 21 international goals in 86 appearances which gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.24 meaning that he has scored almost one goal (exactly 0.96) in every 4 international appearances of his - just compare it to Yarmolenko’s average of one goal in every two international appearances.

Here is Yarmolenko’s brief international stats concerning the number of goals he has scored, appearances he has made, assists he has provided and yellow or red cards he has received: Friendlies, 39 appearances, 11 goals, 6 assists, and 3 yellow cards, World Cup qualification rounds, 19 appearances, 4 goals, 4 assists, and 2 yellow cards, Euro qualification rounds, 17 appearances, 4 goals, 1 assist, and 1 yellow card, Euro finals, 6 appearances, 1 assist, and 1 yellow card, and finally UEFA Nations League, 5 appearances, 2 goals, and 1 red card. These actually sum up to 86 appearances, 21 goals, 12 assists, and 8 yellow cards. And except for two matches against

Albania

in 2018 and Serbia in 2019, Konoplyanka has never scored more than one goal in any of his international appearances, of course, to this date - that may change in the future.

Serhiy Rebrov (15 Goals)

Maybe scoring only 15 international goals during one’s career is not something to catch the eye, however, even with that number of goals, Serhiy Rebrov has become Ukraine’s fourth top scorer of all time. He scored his 15 international goals in 75 appearances which gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.2 meaning that he exactly scored one goal in every of his 5 international appearances. Considering that Rebrov was a forward, that may not look good, however, you should not forget that

Ukraine national football team

is not a big name in world football despite being European plus that Rebrov got better results at club level with a total of 204 goals in 580 appearances - one goal in every three appearances averagely.

Rebrov served the Ukrainian national team sometime between 1992 and 2006 taking part in 2006 World Cup with them where the Ukrainian national team could make it to the quarter-finals just to be stopped by Italy after a 3-0 loss. He actually scored his only goal in that competition in a group-stage match against Saudi Arabia which ended in Ukraine’s 4-0 win. He also played in all Ukraine’s matches in that competition (5) except for the one against Italy. Rebrov made 24 appearances, scored 3 goals, provided 1 assist, and received 3 yellow cards in the same World Cup qualification round. He also made 18 appearances in Euro 2000 and 2004 qualification rounds with 5 goals scored and one assist provided plus 29 appearances in international friendlies with 6 goals scored and one yellow card received. The most number of goals the 47-year-old retired Ukrainian footballer scored in a single international match was in a friendly against Georgia where he scored 2 goals helping his team in a 4-0 win.

Oleh Husyev (13 Goals)

The footballer with the lowest international goal-to-appearance ratio on the list of

Ukraine top scorers of all time

, of course alongside two other footballers at the bottom of the list, Oleh Husyev has actually an international goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.13 which comes from the 13 goals he score in his 98 international appearances meaning that he scored around one goal in every eight appearances of his for the Ukrainian national team, however, if you consider that he exchanged roles between midfield and defense line, that might explain it. Anyhow, it’s been enough to get him on the list of Ukraine top scorers of all time - actually on the fifth position - plus that with that number of international appearances (98), Husyev is also the sixth most capped Ukrainian footballer of all time.

Husyev served the Ukrainian national team sometime between 2003 and 2016 taking part in 2006 World Cup and Euro 2012 with them making 5 and 3 appearances in the two competitions, respectively, with no goals scored or assists provided, however, in the same World Cup and Euro qualification rounds, Husyev made 45 appearances, scored 7 goals, provided 5 assists, and of course, received 4 yellow cards with the former actually getting a share of 29 appearances, 3 goals, 4 assists, and 4 yellow cards of Husyev and the latter, 16 appearances, 4 goals, and one assist of the Ukrainian 38-year-old retired footballer.

He also made 45 appearances in international friendlies with 6 goals scored, 4 assists provided, and 2 yellow cards received which sums up with the above-mentioned stats to 98 appearances, 13 goals, 9 assists, and 6 yellow cards. The most number of goals Husyev scored in a single international match was actually in two matches against

Faroe Islands

in Euro 2008 qualification round and Austria - actually a friendly - where in both he managed to score 2 goals helping his team in a 5-0 win in the former and narrowing his team’s gap in a 3-2 loss in the latter.

Roman Yaremchuk (12 Goals)

The last active footballer on the list of Ukraine top scorers of all time, Roman Yaremchuk is a 26-year-old forward who’s been serving the Ukrainian national team since 2018 making 36 appearances and scoring 12 goals for them in the process which translates to exactly one goal in every three appearances. Yaremchuk is only one goal behind Oleh Husyev and three goals behind Serhiy Rebrov and considering that he’s only 26 years old and has probably 10 more years in front of him in his career, he could easily overtake the two above-mentioned footballers on the list - he has to score only four more international goals to realize that. And if he just score 10 more goals, he even can overtake Yevhen Konoplyanka on the list, however, you should also consider that Konoplyanka is also active and can add to his international goals meaning that only future can decide which of these two players will win the battle for the third position on the list of Ukraine top scorers of all time.

If Yaremchuk continues to score in the current fashion he has already - we mean 12 international goals in every three years, then supposing that he has 10 more years in his career, he will score 36 more goals, at least, and can even get in front of Andriy Yarmolenko who occupies the second position on the list. That, however, is only on paper; we should wait and see. For now, Yaremchuk occupies the 6th position on the list with the 12 international goals he has scored, and here is his international stats concerning the appearances he has made, goals he has scored, and assists he has provided, of course, to this date: Friendlies, 8 appearances, and 2 goals, 2022 World Cup qualification round, 8 appearances, 3 goals, and one assist, Euro 2020 qualification round, 7 appearances, 4 goals, and 2 assists, Euro 2020 finals, 5 appearances, 2 goals, and one assist, UEFA Nations League, 8 appearances, 2 goals, and one assist. Yaremchuk has not received any yellow or red card at international level yet and he has also scored not more than one goal in a single international match to this date.

Serhiy Nazarenko (12 Goals)

He shares the 6th positon on the list of

Ukraine top scorers of all time

with Roman Yaremchuk concerning the number of international goals he scored, but considering his international goal-to-appearance ratio he’s behind Yaremchuk since he scored his 12 international goals in more appearances; actually in 56 appearances which gets him a goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.21 meaning that he scored around one goal in every of his 5 international appearances averagely. The man is Serhiy Nazarenko who actually served the Ukrainian national team sometime between 2003 and 2012 as an attacking midfielder or winger.

Nazarenko was part of the Ukrainian squad in 2006 World Cup, however, in all the five games Ukraine played in the competition, he was on the bench and actually did not make a single appearance in that competition even as a substitute let alone scoring goals. He was also part of the Ukrainian squad in Euro 2012 and its qualifying round making 3 appearances in the former and 7 in the latter but again with no goals. All the international goals Nazarenko scored during his career were actually scored in 2006 World Cup qualification round (5) and international friendlies (7) in 14 and 32 appearances, respectively.

He also provided 3 assists and one yellow card in the former and 2 assists and again one yellow card in the latter. And you shouldn’t expect the 42-year-old retired Ukrainian footballer to have scored more than 2 goals in a single international match, as it’s really so, however, he’s still better than his fellowman, Roman Yaremchuk, who didn’t score more than one goal in any international match. Nazarenko scored 2 goals in two single international matches, both against

Kazakhstan

, and both within 2010 World Cup qualification round, in one of which Ukraine beat their opponents 3-1 and in the other 2-1.

Yevhen Seleznyov (11 Goals)

The last footballer on the list to have scored more than ten goals for Ukraine national football team, Yevhen Seleznyov is a 36-year-old still-active Ukrainian forward who’s been serving the Ukrainian club, Mynai, since 2021. Although he’s still active at club level, Seleznyov retired from international football in 2018 after serving his country’s national team for ten years between 2008 and 2018 during which he scored 11 goals in his 58 appearances for them. That actually gets him an international goal-to-appearance ratio of almost 0.19 meaning that he scored almost one goal in every five appearances that he made for the Ukrainian national team.

Here is Seleznyov’s international stats concerning the number of goals he scored, appearances he made, assists he provided and also yellow or red cards he received: Friendlies, 4 goals in 33 appearances, World Cup qualification rounds, 5 goals, 2 assists, and 2 yellow cards in 17 appearances, Euro 2016 qualification round, 2 goals and one yellow card in 5 appearances, Euro 2016 finals, 2 appearances and one yellow card, and finally UEFA Nations League, only one appearance. That sums up to 58 appearances, 11 goals, 2 assists, and 4 yellow cards at international level for Seleznyov. The most number of goals Seleznyov scored in a single international match was in a 2014 World Cup qualification round match against San Marino where he scored 2 goals contributing to his team’s 8-0 victory.

Andriy Vorobey (9 Goals)

Andriy Vorobey and the next footballer on the list, Andriy Husin, both scored 9 goals for the Ukrianian national team, but the reason Vorobey occupies one position higher than Husin on the list is that his international goal-to-appearance ratio is higher by 0.01. He actually scored his 9 international goals in 67 appearances which gets him an international goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.13 meaning that he scored around one goal (exactly 1.04) in every 8 appearances for his country’s national team.

Vorobey was actually part of the Ukrainian national team in 2006 World Cup who could advance to the competition’s quarter-finals just to lose 3-0 to Italy there. He didn’t score a single goal for Ukraine neither in that competition nor in its qualification round, and although he took part in 2002 World Cup, too, he, again, didn’t score a goal for his country’s national team in that competition, however, he scored two goals in the competition’s qualification round and both in a single match against

Armenia

. The rest of Vorobey’s international goals were scored in friendlies (5) and in Euro qualification rounds (2). He made 26 appearances in international friendlies, 21 in World Cup qualification rounds, 16 in Euro qualification rounds, and 4 in World Cup finals. He also provided 2 assists and received 5 yellow cards during his international career.

Andriy Husin (9 Goals)

The only passed footballer on the list of Ukraine top scorers of all time, Andriy Husin - also pronounced Gusin - died only five years after his retirement in 2009 in a motorcycle crash and at the age of 41. He served the Ukrainian national team for 13 years between 1993 and 2006 during which he scored 9 goals in his 72 appearances for them. That actually gets him an international goal-to-appearance ratio of 0.12 - only 0.01 behind that of Vorobey - and means that he scored almost one goal (exactly 0.96) in every 8 appearances that he made for his country’s national team.

Unlike Vorobey, Husin never scored more than one goal in any of his international appearances, but unlike some other footballers on the list, he didn’t score most of his international goals in friendlies but in World Cup qualification rounds. Here is Husin’s brief international stats concerning his international goals, appearances, and any yellow or red cards he received at international level: Friendlies, 2 goals and 3 yellow cards in 27 appearances, World Cup qualification rounds, 4 goals and one yellow card in 21 appearances, Euro qualification rounds, 3 goals, 4 yellow cards, and a second yellow card leading to a red card in 19 appearances, and World Cup finals only 5 appearances. That actually sums up to 72 appearances, 9 goals, 8 yellow cards, and a second yellow card.
