After a 1-1 draw at RB Leipzig, Man City hosted the German side in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie on Wednesday in need of a victory.

Man City started the game on the front foot with a lethal first-half display from Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker opened up for the Citizens from the Penalty spot in the 22nd minute before grabbing his second goal just 78 seconds later, nodding the ball into the net after De Bruyne hit the crossbar. He completed his hat-trick in the 45th minute tapping in another rebound.

The Citizens continued their domination in the second half as Gundogan scored their fourth goal in the 49th minute. Haaland shortly scored his fourth goal of the game in the 53rd minute through a volley. Haaland scored again to make it 6-0 for Manchester City. Haaland became the third player to score five goals in a single Champions League game, after Luiz Adriano and Lionel Messi. Kevin de Bruyne scored City's seventh goal as the Citizens proceeded to the quarter-final in fashion.
