Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen out for three months

Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury against Reading.

Manchester United

has announced that

Christian Eriksen

will be out of action for three months after suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup tie against Reading.

Eriksen hurt his ankle after a tackle from Andy Carroll and left Old Trafford on crutches after the 3-1 victory on Saturday.

In a statement, United said:

"While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May.

"Eriksen’s absence will be a big disappointment to manager Erik ten Hag and fans given the consistency of his performances throughout the season so far.

"However, there is hope that Christian can return in time to play a role in the final stages of the season."

The 30-year-old midfielder joined Manchester United on a free transfer last summer. He has provided seven assists and scored once in 19 Premier League appearances.

Eriksen has been a key player for

Eric Ten Hag

in his first season as a Manchester United player, but it is unlikely they will sign another midfielder on the transfer deadline day.

United will host Nottingham Forest in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie on Wednesday night. They won the first leg with three goals last week.

Ten Hag’s side is in fourth place in the Premier League with 39 points after 20 matches.
