Carabao Cup draw: Man Utd face Charlton, Man City visit Southampton

The Carabao Cup quarter-final draw took place on Thursday, after the final Round of 16 match between Liverpool and Manchester City.

Manchester United

will host third-tier Charlton Athletic in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup and

Manchester City

 will face Southampton away from home. Quarter-Final fixtures will take place in the week commencing 9 January 2023.

Manchester City has won sixth Carabao Cups in the last nine years. They beat holders Liverpool 3-2 on Thursday at the Etihad Stadium. Guardiola’s side also beat Chelsea at home in the last 32 round.

The Citizens will equal Liverpool as the most successful club in EFL Cup history if they win their ninth title this season.

Manchester United who has not won a major trophy in the last 5 years beat Burnley with two goals on Wednesday at Old Trafford. United last won the EFL cup in 2017 under Jose Mourinho.

Newcastle

faces Leicester at home in the quarter-finals. They are looking for their first domestic trophy since 1955. Eddie Howe's side beat Bournemouth in the last 16 round and Leicester defeated League One side MK Dons.

Nottingham Forest and Wolves also face each other at the City Ground. Forest beat Championship side Blackburn while Wolves ease past League Two side Gillingham at Molineux.
