Morocco legend Hadji praises Atlas Lions’ 'exemplary state of mind'

Morocco World Cup veteran and their former assistant coach Mustapha Hadji has hailed Atlas Lions for their discipline in the 2022 World Cup

The 1994 and 1998 World Cup veteran for Morocco and possibly their most well-known player ever Mustapha Hadji has commended Morocco since he thinks they can “work miracles” under Regragui.

The 2022 World Cup would be

Morocco

’s sixth and they have managed to move past the group stage only once in the last 5 appearances. However, the Atlas Lions have done the unthinkable and have eliminated Spain and Portugal to reach the World Cup semi-finals, becoming the first ever African nation to do so.

Hadji who was an assistant coach for Morocco from 2014 until earlier this year and had represented Morocco in the 1994 and 1998 World Cup, spoke to L’Equipe about Morocco’s World Cup campaign so far, saying:

"Here in Morocco, it's crazy, what's happening for the national team is extraordinary.

"It's only been two or three months since Walid Regragui arrived in the national team. There was an upheaval with Vahid.

"The new coach was able to find the words and the way to bring out the best players and make a team with a lion's state of mind.

"The team plays with heart and an exemplary state of mind. With a coach like that, you can only flourish and work miracles."

Morocco are set to meet

France

in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
