Xavi backs Argentina to qualify for the knockout stages

Barcelona manager Xavi backs Leo Messi and Argentina to turn it around and get the 6 points and reach the last-16

Argentina were one of the heavy favorites to win the World Cup before the start of the tournament but Scaloni’s men were stunned by a well-organized

Saudi Arabia

team that beat them 2-1. However, Xavi believes that his former teammate Lionel Messi can still deliver and help Argentina get the 6 remaining points.

Xavi himself was part of a Spain team in the 2010 World Cup that lost their opening match but went on to win the tournament and now he thinks that Argentina is capable of doing that too.

"I know [how it feels], because it happened to us in 2010 in South Africa. It is a very difficult moment.”

Xavi said about the Switzerland loss at the 2010 World Cup.

"[There is] more tension, more pressure, but I think they have everything. They have the capacity to come back, to win against Mexico and beat Poland.

"I believe a lot in Leo, in the

Argentina

squad, in Scaloni. They have the capacity to get six points and qualify for the next round, sure."

Group C has now become complicated with Poland getting the win over Saudi Arabia earlier today. Argentina will face Mexico before ending the group stage with a match against Poland. Scaloni’s men will be looking to get 6 points to avoid any last-minute drama.
