Germany ready to accept fine for wearing the rainbow armband at Qatar

Amid concerns over human rights in Qatar, especially LGBTQ+, the 'One Love' diversity campaign was launched in September supporting same-sex relationships that are illegal in Qatar. DFB president confirms that Germany will join the movement as they are ready to get fined.

With same-sex relationships being illegal in Qatar, the 'One Love' campaign in support of

LGBTQ+ rights

was launched with DFB association chief

Bernd Neuendorf

claiming their captain will join the campaign by wearing a distinctive rainbow heart-adorned armband at the tournament while welcoming possible fine and charges from FIFA.

Neuendorf told his press conference:

"I am quite willing to accept a fine. This is not a political statement, but a statement for human rights.

In addition,

German international

players are donating €1million to a children's village in Nepal. Neuendorf said:

"The money comes directly from the players. It was a special concern for the team. Four hundred thousand migrant workers come from Nepal. We want to support the people where they come from in order to relieve the migration pressure."

Germany will face Spain, Costa Rica, and Japan in Group E of the tournament.
