Liverpool star Fabio Carvalho steps down from Portugal Under-21s

Previously representing England at younger levels, Fabio Carvalho opted against representing Portugal at the Under-21 level after making 11 Premier League appearances in his first Liverpool season.

Despite being named in Rui Jorge's squad for

Portugal

Under-21 friendlies against the Czech Republic and Japan, the

Liverpool

midfielder has informed that he won't represent the nation at this age level anymore as the Portuguese Football Federation [FPF] confirmed the news through a statement on Tuesday.

The statement from the

FPF

read:

"Fabio Carvalho informed the Portuguese Football Federation, through some SMS messages, that he does not intend to continue representing Portugal at the under-21 level.

"This decision by the player was communicated after the call-up for the preparation games with the Czech Republic and Japan was known."

, was officially unveiled as a Liverpool FC player in early July 2022. Although he scored a dramatic winner against Newcastle United in the 98th minute on August 31st, some fans and people from the media have agreed that he has looked lost in some of his games.

Before, the young star kicked the ball for Fulham youth team for five years. He found his way to Fulham’s senior team in 2020 and played for them until May 2022, at which point he joined Liverpool FC for a reported fee of £5.31 million.
