Davies backs Musiala for a future Ballon d'Or after Kopa Trophy snub

Despite his outstanding performance with Bayern, Jamal Musiala finished third in the ranking for the Kopa Trophy behind Camavinga and Gavi. However, his Canadian teammate believes the authorities can’t snub him for Ballon d’Or in the future.

Scoring eight goals and contributing further eight assists,

Jamal Musiala

was ranked third in

the Kopa Trophy

as Barcelona's Gavi was awarded as the best Under-21 player in the world.

Questioning the decision of giving the Kopa Trophy to Gavi,

Alphonso Davies

wrote on Twitter:

“They may have denied you of your Kopa Trophy, but they won’t deny you of your future Ballon d’Or."

Bayern boss

Julian Nagelsmann

also responded:

"In my opinion, both Jamal Musiala and Jude Bellingham played a better season than the winner," he told reporters. "But Gavi is an outstanding player and I'm happy for him too."

The Ballon d'Or 2022 award

ceremony took place at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris on Monday night. Karim Benzema won the 2022 Ballon D'or award during Monday night's ceremony. Barcelona's Alexia Putellas won the Women's Ballon d'Or for the second year in a row, Barcelona's Gavi won the Kopa Trophy, and Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also won the Yachin trophy. Robert Lewandowski also won the best striker of the year award.
