to win the Ballon d’Or this year as he thinks the Real Madrid star “easily deserves” this award. The talismanic player had a great 2021-22 season and he helped Los Blancos be the winners of La Liga and the Champions League, with Mane’s Liverpool being the side to lose in the final.

Since the beginning of the previous season, the France international has met the target 48 times and contributed 16 assists across all competitions for the La Liga champions. However, Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski are the ones who have netted more, both 50, in the same period of time. The Frenchman also became the second-highest goalscorer for Madrid, with Cristiano Ronaldo being the first. Mane, who departed Liverpool and joined Bayern Munich, is also on the list for the Ballon d’Or.

He had a crucial role for Senegal as they won the Africa Cup of Nations, while also helping Liverpool win the EFL Cup and FA Cup. Following his goal and assist during Bayern’s 5-0 victory over Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League, Mane was quizzed his idea on the potential winner of the prize.

"[Benzema's] had a great, great season with Real Madrid, he's won the Champions League... I think he easily deserves it, so I'm happy for him,"

 Mane told reporters.

"I know I won the Africa Cup of Nations, it was a relief for me and for the whole country, and I'm really happy to have won my first AFCON with my country. But I think it's Karim who deserves it, and I honestly believe that."

Jorge Valdano, the Madrid Legend, talked about the matter to MARCA radio.

He said:

"There is no other name for the Ballon d'Or after an extraordinary season. [Benzema] played football of exceptional quality and he has added goals and leadership.

"He who is intelligent evolves in all aspects and he is the best example."

The ceremony of the 2022 Ballon d’Or is scheduled to happen on October 17 in Paris.
