Pep Guardiola: "I love Man City as much as Foden and Haaland do"

Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both scored hattricks as Manchester City won the Manchester derby 6-3. The Man City boss expresses his love for the club after the victory.

Phil Foden

and Erling Haaland scored twice in the first half of the Manchester derby as the teams headed to dressing rooms after the half-time whistle with a decisive 4-0 scoreline. A 56th-minute goal from United's Brazilian winger, Antony, gave the visitors the hope of a comeback. However, City responded quickly to shut these hopes as Haaland and Phoden scored again to make it 6-1 for

Manchester City

.

Pep Guardiola

expressed his love for the club that he shares with the duo hailing the performance of his club. He told his post-match interview:

"I'm a Manchester City fan just like them [Phil Foden and Erling Haaland], I love this club.”

“We were good. We were good. It's not about United, we were good. The second half they were better."

A late brace from Anthony Martial consolated the result for

Man United

as the Manchester derby ended with a 6-3 home victory for the Citizens. With the three points they gained on Sunday, Man City continued their chase of the Premier League leaders

Arsenal

with only one point behind the Gunners. The Man City boss still called for improvement from his plays as they received late goals.

"Sloppy easy balls we are losing and we need to improve on that... Still I would say in our process and the simple things we are not good enough,"

Guardiola added.

The Man City boss hinted that he might rest

Erling Haaland

for their midweek game. He added:

"He will take a break. There will be games he is not going to play. We are lucky, last season he could not play many games in a  row - here we have incredible physios and thanks to them, he can play every 90 minutes. They are so important."

Man City

became the 3rd Premier League club in history to have 2 players scoring hattricks in a game after Pennant and Pires in Arsenal's 6-1 victory over Saints in May 2003, and Perez and Vardy in Leicester's 9-0 domination of Southampton in October 2019.
