Xavi: Lewandowski is the best striker in the world

Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez after a hard fought win against Mallorca said patience won them the game.

Barcelona

beat Mallorca on Saturday thanks to Robert Lewandowski’s goal. They sit at top of the table with 19 points before Real Madrid plays with Osasuna on Sunday.

Xavi after the game told reporters:

“We had been very patient and calm, it is always difficult to be patient when there is no space, you have to be perfect. It was hard for us to get the three points, in the second half we played the game that Mallorca wanted and we must not allow that. In those situations, we must go for the second goal.”

Marc-Andre Ter Stegen

and

Lewandowski

were Barcelona’s best players in this match and Xavi was asked about whether his team is relying on them too much.

“It would be unwise to explain everything with ter Stegen and Lewandowski. There are more circumstances that impact a game, although it’s clear that they have made the difference. Marc [ter Stegen] is in spectacular form. Lewandowski is a top player, a world-class scorer. Maybe the best striker in the world.”

Xavi due to injuries decided to play Alejandro Balde at right back and after the game praised Balde and his defenders.

“He’s [Balde] already played on the right, he is very good positionally. The defensive line was great. Jordi, Pique were very good, the same goes for Christensen.”

Gerrard Pique played a key role in Barcelona’s victory but Xavi refused to say he will start against Inter in the Champions League on Tuesday.

“He could [start]. We have a good squad with many quality players.”

“We have games every three days. I have already told the players that they will all get minutes, and that they all have to be ready.”

Xavi beat Zinedine Zidane's record for the best unbeaten start away from home by a coach in the Spanish top flight with 18 games.

“If you break records, but don’t win titles, then those records are worthless. Having good results away from home indicated that we are working well, but if we don’t win titles, then it doesn’t matter.”

Xavi also talked about Ansu Fati’s performance against Mallorca.

“Ansu has been very good, I have seen him at 100%. These two weeks have helped him very well, he has been extraordinary in training. Fati has proposed to be important, I’m convinced that he will be,”

Xavi said.
