After starting in the Madureira junior system in his home country,

joined the Uruguayan club, Deportivo Maldonado, but eventually returned to Brazil and made his professional debut with Vasco da Gama in 2009. In 2012, Allan joined the Italian team Udinese, then in 2015, he transferred to another Serie A club
Napoli, where he established himself as one of the best midfielders in the league.
He made his senior debut for
Brazil
in 2018 and was a member of the squad that won the 2019 Copa América on home soil. He was a member of the Brazil under-20 side that won the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
