Sevilla still negotiating for their priority target Raul de Tomas

Scoring 17 goals last season, de Tomas had a set of elite clubs interested in his signature including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. However, with the Catalan club unwilling to sell, all other parties pulled out of the race while Sevilla still pursuing the striker.

According to

Estadio Deportivo

,

Raul de Tomas

remains Sevilla's number one transfer target as

Julen Lopetegui

's side eager to seal a deal before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

The Spanish striker is pushing for a move away from

Espanyol

after disagreements with new manager Diego Martinez as the Catalan club might let the Spain international leave the club on loan this summer.

With 1 point out of their three opening La Liga matches,

Sevilla

had a horrible start to the season as Julen Lopetegui accused Sevilla of lacking a strong mentality after their defeat against Almeria on Sunday.

Espanyol signed

de Tomas

from

Benfica

for a €20m fee in 2020 on a deal that also gave the Portuguese side a 20 percent sell-on clause for the forward. De Tomas, who progressed through the

Real Madrid

youth system, enjoyed productive loan spells with Real Valladolid and Rayo Vallecano before joining Benfica on a five-year deal.

Despite the rumors, Espanyol president

Domingo Catoira

claimed the club would fight to keep the Spanish star.

He said:

“His performances in these last two years have led us to achieve important goals.

“He’s always in the rumor mill, but the reality is there have been no offers for him.”
