. The 18-year-old will spend the remainder of the current MLS campaign at Fire on loan and will join his new team in January 2023.

Chelsea will reportedly pay up to £12.3 million if all add-ons are met. This is a new record for an American goalkeeper.

He made his debut for the Fire at the age of 17 years and 81 days in August 2021 and become the youngest goalkeeper ever to start an MLS match. He has made 34 appearances for the club in total.

Slonina received his first senior international call-up in December and was on the bench for the friendly match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We’re very proud and happy to see Gaga reach this milestone moment in his career,”

said Chicago Fire FC sporting director Georg Heitz in a statement.

“Since joining the club, Gaga has embodied what it means to be a Chicago Fire player. In addition to his incredible talent, he is mature beyond his years, extremely hard working, and a fantastic teammate.

"Gaga is a role model to many young aspiring footballers in Chicago, and this transfer demonstrates that a player can progress to the first team from our academy before joining one of the biggest clubs in the world.”
