Leicester City eye Napoli's Alex Meret as Schmeichel replacement
Leicester City wants to sign Napoli's goalkeeper Alex Meret as a replacement for Kasper Schmeichel.
According to Rai Sport,
Leicester Cityis looking for a goalkeeper to replace
Schmeicheland Napoli’s
Alex Meretis one of their targets. The 25-year-old Italian shot-stopper only has one year left on his deal with Napoli and so far he has not reached an agreement over a renewal.
Rai Sport claims that Meret does not want to remain a backup goalkeeper and is open to joining another team this summer. Napoli will consider any offers above €15m for Meret. He was the second goalkeeper last season behind David Ospina and only made seven Serie A appearances.
Schmeichel is into the final year of his contract at Leicester City and reportedly is close to joining Ligue side Nice. The 35-year-old Schmeichel joined Leicester in 2011 and since then has played in 479 matches. He won the Premier League in 2016 and Fa Cup in 2021.
Arsenal stopper Bernd Leno has also been linked with Leicester in recent days as a replacement for Schmeichel. Leicester is currently the only Premier League club who have not completed a signing this summer.
