Tuchel: Lukaku return to Chelsea unlikely

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says it is unlikely Romelu Lukaku will return to the blues.

Lukaku

returned to

Inter

on a loan deal after just one season at

Chelsea

. He joined Chelsea last summer for €110 million but failed to impress under Thomas Tuchel and started just 16 Premier League games during the 2021-22 season and scored only 8 goals.

Chelsea confirmed the signing of Raheem Sterling for £47.5 million on Wednesday and Tuchel says that a return to Chelsea for Lukaku is not likely.

"Given the fact he's just on loan, of course, there's a chance,"

Tuchel told Sky Sports.

"I don't know if it's very likely, but it's not on me to give an outlook on that. There is a chance for it.”

Tuchel also says he is happy with his attacking options for next season if they won't sign another striker.

"We decided together with the owners that we'd let him (Lukaku) go,"

he added.

"It was his wish to go, he had the possibility, we let him go.

"We brought now Raheem Sterling, which gives us a lot of flexibility, a lot of mobility, a lot of attacking options at the front, even if we don't recruit more players."
