Barcelona to turn to Koulibaly if Kounde bid fails

Barcelona is still interested in signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

Diario Sport reports that Sevilla center-back Jules Kounde is still Xavi’s number one target for strengthening his defensive options this summer but

Barcelona

is also interested in

Kalidou Koulibaly

and could move for him if they failed to sign Kounde.

According to the Diario Sport, Koulibaly wants to leave

Napoli

this summer but the Italian club only sells him to a club outside of Italy. Koulibaly's contract ends in 2023 and Napoli is open to selling him rather than losing him on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old Koulibaly joined Napoli from Geek in 2014 and since then has played in 317 matches for them. He won the Coppa Italia title in 2020 and Supercoppa Italiana in 2014 with Napoli and has been included in the Serie A team of the season four times. Koulibaly won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal in February.

Jules Kounde's priority this summer is to join Xavi’s side but at the moment Barcelona and Sevilla have not yet opened formal negotiations over this transfer. Sevilla is open to selling Kounde if it's asking price of £55 million is met. Kounde is also Chelsea's number one defensive target since last summer.
