Lukaku close to Inter return from Chelsea on loan

Wed 15 June 2022 | 18:32

Inter has started negotiations with Chelsea over signing Romelu Lukaku on a loan deal.

According to the Gazzetta Dello Sport newspaper,

Chelsea

is open to allowing

Romelu Lukaku

to return to

Inter.

Fabrizio Romano also says that direct contact between both clubs took place on Wednesday. He claims that their meeting has been positive and negotiating will continue in the coming days.

Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that Chelsea told Lukaku last week that they were prepared to let him leave and Thomas Tuchel wants to see a solution rather than have him in the team next season.

Inter cannot afford to sign Lukaku on a permanent basis and Chelsea is waiting to see how much they are willing to pay as a loan fee. Gazzetta claims that Inter wants to pay about €12m and could offer their right wing-back Denzel Dumfries to Chelsea in return for Lukaku.

Lukaku scored 24 goals and helped Inter to win the Serie A title in the 2020-2021 season. The 29-year-old striker returned to Chelsea last summer for €110 million but his comeback to the Premier League has not gone well and the striker has failed to impress under Thomas Tuchel. Lukaku started just 16 Premier League games during the 2021-22 season and scored only 8 goals.
