Manchester United in talks to sign Frenkie de Jong and Antony

Manchester United is still in talks with Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong, but they want to sign a central midfielder first.

Manchester United

has also made initial contact with

Ajax

about winger

Antony

, who has been a regular member of

Erik ten Hag

's Ajax team for the past two seasons. They are also interested in

Jurrien Timber

, who plays defense for Ajax.

The 22-year-old is one of a number of players United has been looking at. Another is Benfica's

Darwin Nunez

, who is about to sign an £85 million deal to join Liverpool. United hasn't made an official offer for De Jong yet because the two clubs still have different ideas about how much the 25-year-old is worth.

However, everyone is becoming more confident that a deal can be made. On the other hand, United will look at other players if they can't get a fair price from the Spanish giants. Ten Hag knows De Jong well and thinks highly of him because he managed the Dutch international at Ajax, where he was part of the team that won the Eredivisie and made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018–19.

Since Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, and Juan Mata are all leaving Old Trafford, United is likely to sign at least one midfielder this summer. De Jong is signed to Barca until the summer of 2026; the club may be willing to sell this summer because of money problems.

This summer, United also wants a forward who can play anywhere in the front three, not necessarily a number nine. United has talked to Ajax about winger Antony. Ten Hag knows him well because he has been a regular on Ten Hag's Ajax team for the past two years. The 22-year-old is one of the players United has been looking at, along with Nunez, who is going to Liverpool.

Sky Sports News has been told that the Uruguayan forward wasn't a top priority for United and that they weren't interested in a deal at the prices being mentioned. United never made an official offer to the Portuguese team, and they didn't want to get into a bidding war for the 22-year-old player.
