Ronaldo's rape charge dismissed by U.S. court

Sun 12 June 2022 | 11:07

Ronaldo has been acquitted and the court has ruled in his favor.

A Las Vegas court has rejected a woman's complaint against

Cristiano Ronaldo

alleging rape, calling the plaintiff's evidence inaccurate or inadequate.

Federal Judge Jennifer Dorsey, who presided over the trial against Ronaldo, said she was rejecting plaintiff Katherine Mayorga's complaint because her case was based on confidential evidence and the plaintiff's lawyer had obtained it illegally. This arrangement has called into question the validity of the case.

The ruling said:

"I find that the procurement and continued use of these documents was bad faith.

"Simply disqualifying Stovall will not cure the prejudice to Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their confidential contents have been woven into the very fabric of [plaintiff Kathryn] Mayorga's claims. Harsh sanctions are merited."

Ms. Mayorga's legal team is expected not to appeal the court ruling. Reports indicate that she and Ronaldo reached a $ 375,000 out-of-court settlement in 2010. However, after revealing Mayorga's name, she tried to get more money.

Ronaldo had said in this regard in 2018:

"I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me.

"Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in."
