Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney set to miss rest of season

Arsenal's Champions League dreams were already shattered on Monday, and the Gunners have been dealt even another setback.

Arsenal

have confirmed that

Kieran Tierney

will need knee surgery and will miss the rest of the season. Tierney did not play in Arsenal's 3-0 defeat at

Crystal Palace

on Monday, which inflicted a severe blow to their

Champions League

aspirations.

"On Tuesday, a specialist appointment was held, and after additional conversations with Kieran and our medical team, it was determined that Kieran required knee surgery. This surgery will take place in the coming days in London.

"Kieran's rehabilitation will begin right after his operation, at which point a better grasp of his recovery timeframe will be developed. On the other hand, Kieran is likely to miss the rest of the season. "Everyone at the club will now rally around Kieran and fight tirelessly to get him back on the field as quickly as possible."

After injuring his right thigh versus Palace, Arsenal midfielder

Thomas Partey

is being evaluated. Arsenal are fifth in the Premier League after their defeat to Palace, trailing arch-rivals

Tottenham

by a goal difference in the race for fourth place and the final Champions League qualification spot. On the other hand, the Spurs have a game in hand on Arsenal.
