Davies joins a long line of Bayern Munich players with COVID-19

Bayern Munich's squad is thinned out before their opening match of 2022 on Friday, with Alphonso Davies joining the roster of players with COVID-19.

Alphonso Davies

is the newest Bayern Munich footballer to be infected with the coronavirus.

On Wednesday, Bayern announced that Canada's left-back Davies had tested positive for  COVID-19.

It comes only one day after Leroy Sane and Dayot Upamecano came back positive as the

Bundesliga

toppers are preparing to play Borussia Monchengladbach in their first game back from the Christmas break on Friday.

This week, positive tests were also reported by Lucas Hernandez and Tanguy Nianzou.

After testing positive, Manuel Neuer, Kingsley Coman, Corentin Tolisso, and Omar Richards were all incapable of showing up for training sessions.

Dino Toppmoller, Bayern's assistant manager, is also out due to a coronavirus.

Prior to the holiday, the Bavarian heavyweights had won seven straight games and held a nine-point advantage over Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
