Bundesliga attendance reduced following COVID-19 cases rise

Following an increase in COVID-19 instances, the German government has limited attendance at Bundesliga games to a maximum of 15,000 people or 50% of stadium capacity.

Chancellor

Angela Merkel

and her successor,

Olaf Scholz

, have reintroduced a number of limitations, including limited capacity in outdoor and indoor sporting events.

Bundesliga

stadiums, which had mostly been operating on near-full capacity this season, must now reduce their crowds in order to slow the spread of the virus.

"A temporary limit on the number of fans in the stadium is understandable,"

German Football League chief

Christian Seifert

said

.

"The DFL hopes that this decision by the federal government and the states leads to an improvement of the pandemic situation."

This means this weekend's games, notably

Borussia Dortmund

vs

Bayern Munich

on Saturday will be affected.
