Celtic crashed out of Europa League after 3-2 loss at Bayer Leverkusen

Thu 25 November 2021 | 23:24

Bayer Leverkusen qualified for the Europa League knockout stages after they fight from behind to beat Celtic 3-2 in the closing 8 minutes of the game on Thursday night.

Leverkusen

knew that if they won all three points at the BayArena on Thursday, they would be certain to win Group G, and

Robert Andrich

's header handed them an early lead.

Despite falling behind, the Bhoys showed courage to fight back against the group leaders in the Europa League. They turned things around through

Josip Juranovic

’s penalty - awarded after a VAR check – before the break and a second-half

Jota

strike.

However, the Scottish club were unable to hold on as

Andrich

equalized and

Diaby

won it with a magnificent late volley after 87 minutes to send the Bundesliga side through and relegate the Hoops to the UEFA Conference League.

The defeat leaves

Celtic

four points behind second-place

Real Betis

, who beat

Ferencvaros

2-0, with the Spaniards visiting Glasgow next month in their final group fixture.
